45+ Website Builders That Are Better Than Wix

Every so often, I get a question “how can I build a website without code?”. Ok, that’s a lie. Actually, I get this question all the time. My knee jerk reaction is to climb up onto a high horse of professionalism and start lecturing people on how websites work, but then I remember that I had been there before myself.

I wanted a website. I didn’t know much code. I didn’t have two years to invest into learning.

Professional designers and developers explained to me that I needed to learn “HTML and CSS” and to decide on a “CMS”. Then I would have to find hosting and pay for a domain. All this had been overwhelming to say the least.

Now I know all that and I’ve become the asshole that lectures people on HTML and CSS and hosting and domains. To make up for it, I decided to compile this list of website builders. Also to help people, of course.

This post is not about why one should or shouldn’t use website builders. There has been a lot said about this and the fact is, code generator technology is improving dramatically.

Here is my criteria for the tools on this list: first, the website of the tool had to look great. All those sites with drop shadows and gradients all over the place were out automatically. Then there was the website builders’ reputation, so Wix and GoDaddy dropped out immediately. The website builders on this list all require zero coding knowledge, even though some don’t offer built-in hosting.
